Top of the World in Yosemite

This panorama photo was made using 6 separate vertical exposures that we "stitched" together side by side to get a very high resolution final image.

This high up vantage point of Yosemite Valley and beyond shows Half Dome, at least five more domes and two water falls on the right. The entire Yosemite National Park covers an area of 1,168 square miles and lies within the boundaries of four California counties.

Yosemite was central to the development of the national park idea. President Abraham Lincoln's signed the Yosemite Grant in 1864 which served to protect Yosemite Valley from developement. Later John Muir led the movement to have Congress establish a larger national park in 1890, one which encompassed the valley and its surrounding mountains and forests, paving the way for the National Park System.
