Fletcher Photos - Constellation Big Dipper Rising Above Treeline

"The Big Dipper Rising"

Kodak Pro 400 PPF film with Pentax 6x7 cm camera & 90mm lens @f/5.6

photo by Bill and Sally Fletcher

In this photo, "The Big Dipper" is rising above the forest trees on an 8300 mountain top. Clearly seen are the main "naked eye" stars that make up the shape of "the dipper" enlarged in their true color. This is a special photographic technique achieved during the original exposure of the film.

The Big Dipper is actually just the tail section of Usa Major, "The Great Bear", which is a very large constellation in the Northern sky. -
